Would you believe we added 2.8 oz of weight to this car, and we didn't add the weight to the trailers? Would you also believe that this car closely matches the recommended NMRA weight for this length of car? How did we do it? We added an additional layer of weight inside the car where it can't be seen. This additional weight helps the car track better, thus improving performance... especially through switches.

KIT 2015A-R is specifically designed to fit the Athearn RTR 85' Piggyback Flat Car. Installation can be done in about an hour, but you will need to allow the glue to dry overnight before re-assembling the car. We also recommend installing Kadee #42 couplers during re-assembly. This will bring the couplers up to the recommended height.

If you want to add even more weight, we recommend installing KIT 2010R or KIT 2010H(heavy version) inside the Athearn 40' trailers. KIT 2010R adds 1.0 oz per trailer while KIT 2010H adds 1.6 oz per trailer. Installation is simple, and can be done along side the flat car.
